High-performance computing platform of the Department of Physics at USACH, focused on data science, simulations, and numerical modeling.

  • Purpose: Support computationally intensive research in physics, data science, and numerical simulations
  • Group applications: Processing large volumes of satellite data, training deep learning models, magnetospheric turbulence simulations
  • Access: Available to group researchers and the USACH academic community

Chilean Space Weather Platform

FONDEF IDEA ID22I10153

Chile's first national pilot platform for real-time space weather monitoring and early warnings. Developed in collaboration with Universidad Adventista de Chile.

  • Real-time monitoring: Solar wind data (OMNI), terrestrial magnetic fields, and energetic particles in Earth's magnetosphere
  • Deep Learning predictive models: Forecasting ground magnetic perturbations and assessing geomagnetically induced current (GIC) risk
  • Early warnings: Notification system for space weather events that could affect satellites, power grids, and communication systems
  • Applications: Critical infrastructure protection, satellite operations, and space mission planning

Technical Capabilities

  • Space data analysis: Processing and analysis of satellite and ground-based data in Python (SciPy, Pandas, SpacePy)
  • Machine Learning / Deep Learning: Development of predictive models with TensorFlow-Keras, PyTorch, FastAI
  • Numerical simulations: Modeling of plasma turbulence and particle dynamics in the radiation belts
  • Software development: Near-real-time forecasting infrastructure, data processing pipelines
  • Scientific visualization: 2D/3D visualization of magnetospheric and space weather data
